Reflection

On Thursday, our class had a guest speaker: Mr. John Golden. He told us about his trip to Bangladesh and I've learned quite a lot from him. At first, I always thought that Muslim people are mean and they always treat us badly. But after the conversation with Mr. John Golden, I think that Muslims are the friendliest, and happiest people in Bangladesh (most of them). Mr. John work at a teacher at Bangladesh, he taught about 80 students. Their classrooms are simple, there are no air-conditioner, no white board, and they only have wooden table to study. Also, boys and girls have to sit separate, boys on one side, and girls on the other side.

His favorite color is green and Bangladesh is all green. He like this color because he think that there are many types of green. People in Bangladesh speaks Bangla and their traditional costumes are less strict than other Muslim countries, they allowed their costumes to have colors and they only need to cover their heads, while other Muslim people was forced to cover their faces. Muslim hat is called a Tubi or Tuki, and people wants to cover their heads because they believed that god is up there. Everyday, kids bathe at the pond. But Mr. John Golden take a bath in his water place so the children thought that he haven't take a bath for 3 years. I also learned about the family in Bangladesh. The parents have a lot of child because of birth control, but they don't have any money to feed their child.  They think that if they have a lot of children, there will be more workers and they can easily make money. But they are wrong, having lots of babies doesn't bring you anything but hardwork. In fact, the parents have to wait for their babies to grow up and work, but before that, they have to take care of them.

Mr. John Golden said that Bangladesh is an #1 country for Dengue Fever. Every night, he put on a mosquito net and sleep. He also have to pray 5 times a day (Call of Prayer). It was interesting at first but it's getting old with all the noises. Muslim people also cook peanuts with sand so it won't burn the peanut when they cook it. Afterward, they'll shift the sand out. Mr. John Golden intends to stay at Bangladesh for 27 months, but he only stayed for 20 months. He had a great time there but he didn't get to finish his trips because at the U.S, an extremist drove a plane to the twin tower strikes and killed a lot of people. So then Mr. John Golden was forced to leave.

I've learned a lot from Mr. John Golden and I'm looking forward to have another interesting conversation with him.
